UC Santa Cruz · Baskin Engineering Project

This project included renovation of existing aged lab spaces into new nanotechnology and bio-molecular engineering labs for two new departments for the School of Engineering and associated support spaces. The project also included a  clean-room  facility  with  Class  100  and  Class  1000  spaces  and  life  safety  upgrades  including  a  new  fire  sprinkler  system for the entire building and a new emergency generator. The project was designed prior to hiring the faculty for the new departments so the lab spaces were designed to be very adaptable to the needs of the researchers. The Clean-room project required a new dedicated HVAC system for which new equipment was located on the rooftop and existing shaft space was used for the new duct runs. The new lab spaces serve as a model for future lab renovations in the building.
