Solano Community College · New Science Building
The new Solano Community College Science Building replaces facilities that date back 45 years and is a showcase building for the campus. It houses state-of-the-art science laboratories for biology, chemistry, anatomy, geology and geography, as well as two general laboratories, a lecture room and general support spaces.
Opportunities for learning outside of the classroom and spaces promoting student-to-student interaction are featured throughout the building. The environment features teaching spaces for science programs, general support spaces, amenities and interactive social meeting spaces located in the lobby area.
A sense of openness and interactivity was a primary factor as this is a college-level teaching environment. Learning stations had the feature of mobility so classrooms could be configured into several combinations as either islands or clustered groups. Yet, other labs in this building feature general laboratories with fixed traditional peninsula benches. Built to LEED® Gold equivalence.
